Some thoughts on Lisa-Marie of BodyRock.

Lisa-Marie, post-boob job.

There’s a lot of buzz surrounding BodyRock.tv lately. The discussion, as it has in the past, revolves mostly around the overly-sexualized photos and videos of their hosts, but now a different topic is becoming apparent in the threads: new host Lisa-Marie’s recent boob job.

I’ve said before that when Lisa-Marie took over hosting duties at BodyRock.tv, I had a lot of trouble warming up to her. I just couldn’t relate to her and I found her “spunkiness” a litle annoying. I haven’t done a BodyRock workout since Zuzana left.

That being said, I feel disappointed in Lisa-Marie for getting a boob job. I mean, her body was already pretty awesome just the way it was, why did she have to change it? I realize that it’s her body and her decision to make (and no one else’s), but the move really does not bode well because she is the face of a health and fitness brand that advocates self acceptance. I’m sure BodyRock.tv has followers made of impressionable young girls. What kind of effect will Lisa-Marie’s boob job have on them and their self-image?

On top of that, her boobs are too huge now; they’re almost comically disproportionate. I can probably look past Lisa-Marie’s boob-job decision if she had gotten “just the right size”… you know, a true “enhancement” to her form, but her new breasts look ridiculous. At least Zuzana’s looked perfect relative to her body type and size.

Zuzana Light’s First Workout Video

Just watched Zuzana’s first workout video, and I am blown away. First of all, I’m loving the raw, gritty feel of her ZWOD, which stands for Zuzana’s Workout of the Day. I feel like this is how an exercise video should be: realistic and just pure no-nonsense, straight-to-the-point, shoot-you-in-the-face bad-assery. Whoever is shooting and editing her videos, thumbs up!

Secondly, her video is much, much longer compared to the typical BodyRock tutorial videos that we’ve gotten used to. Zuzana’s workout video is actually split into two parts: the first lasts for 15 minutes while the second lasts for 11, bringing the run time to almost half an hour. The reason why it’s so long is that the video shows Zuzana doing the complete workout, no cuts, from start to finish. I love, love, love this aspect because it gives users the feel that they’re actually exercising with Zuzana. Like she’s right there. Beside you. Kicking your ass. Without scaring you to death of course (I’m looking at you, Jillian). Eeeee–happy fangirl dancing.

Another thing I love are the visual cues of each exercise in the workout sequence, on top of Zuzana announcing them as they come. This makes it easier to keep the workout pace because there’s no need to pause to read your notes again, because you couldn’t remember what the next exercise was! This may not be a problem for more experienced exercises but it was certainly a challenge for me when I did BodyRock. Especially since the workout type is HIIT, I believe that momentum really is key here.

Lastly, I love how the video actually show Zuzana struggling, taking breaks, even whining (!) through her workout–for me, it’s a refreshing reminder that this beautiful, astonishing, inspiring fitness goddess is human and as such experiences the same pain and exhaustion that we do. So if we could only squeeze out one rep before collapsing in a heap on the floor, that’s okay. Zuzka struggles too–it’s the will to finish what we start that matters. :) Who else got so pumped when she said, “I’m not giving up–you’ll have to kill me!”

So Zuzka, if you’re reading this–I’m so happy to see you back! You’re a huge inspiration to me; you’re the reason why I started to BodyRock in the first place. I hope to see more kick-ass ZWODs–just like this–in the future. We love you! ^_^
